KEGEL:
Pelvic floor muscle contractions are the bedrock of the ‘core’ muscles. When doing core exercises the pelvic floor muscles should naturally co-contract during these exercises to assist in pelvic support, however, this is not a Kegel. A Kegel is done when the pelvic floor muscles contract in isolation. It is likely to have a strong core functionally and still have a weak pelvic floor because of not performing Kegels correctly or in isolation.
BIOFEEDBACK TRAINING:
- Biofeedback training will allow you to find out how your pelvic floor muscles are reacting to the activities. This are special exercises; you can be taught on how to relax tight pelvic floor muscles or strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles. This teaches defecation and voiding techniques in coordinating the pelvic floor, as well as understanding how to ‘up-train’ (Kegel) or ‘down-train’ (relax) the pelvic floor muscles.
MANUAL THERAPY:
- Manual Therapy is applying various techniques of internal (vaginal or rectal) and external manual therapy, also known as myofascial release or soft tissue mobilization. These techniques include correcting pelvic obliquities, reducing muscle spasms, decreasing pain, ‘breaking down’ scar tissue and reducing adhesions, all with the intention of enhancing tissue mobility and functionality. These methods are vital in easing pelvic pain.
PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISE:
- Pelvic floor exercises are specialized exercises to correct muscle imbalances as a result of a compensatory form of pain and dysfunctions. It is key to know that Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD) is not used to treat any other form of pain condition. Kegels are contraindicated for individuals with pelvic pain.
ELECTRIC STIMULATION:
- Electric stimulation is used to support a pelvic floor contraction by regaining motor control. The electrical stimulation converts the inactive muscular structure to regain motor routes to the brain. This is usually suggested for individual with very poor strength and motor control because of having little to no ability to contract the pelvic floor voluntarily
